James Bernard Behan - Obituary

BEHAN, JAMES BERNARD Age 77, passed away peacefully on March 12, 2008 surrounded by those who loved and cherished him the most. Jim Behan was born in Union City, New Jersey on Nov 18th 1930 to Irish immigrants Tess and Chris Behan. As a 1st generation Irish American, he honorably served our country in the Air Force from 1951-1955. In 1954, while stationed at Carswell AFB in Ft Worth, he married Dorothy Marie Gross. After graduating with honors from St Peter's College in New Jersey, Jim earned a law degree from SMU in Dallas. A member of the Texas Bar Association and a prominent DFW attorney for over 40 years, Jim served as Grand Prairie Bar Association President in 1971-72. A beloved husband and father of 13, Jim was devoted to his family. As a devout Catholic, he was an active member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus Council 3460 serving as Grand Knight in 1970-71. Jim was preceded in death by parents Chris and Tess, brother Martin, daughter Teresa Catherine and grandson Patrick. Survivors include: Wife Dorothy; 12 children: Barney (Class of 73) and Susan Behan, Michael (Class of 74) and Rosemary Behan, Marian Behan Wrona (Class of 76), Helen (Class of 78) and Vincent Dhooghe, John (Class of 78) and Mary Ann Behan, James Behan (Class of 80), Patricia (Class of 81) and Jody Hamblen, Joseph (Class of 83) and April Behan, Mary Carole (Class of 85) and Joe Morris, Kathleen (Class of 90)and James Treadway, Nancy (Class of 90) and Ollie Reiter, Martin (Class of 94) and Misty Behan; 52 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; brothers: Chris, Pat, Matt & their families. Open visitation Sunday, March 16th at Bean-Massey-Burge Funeral Home from 12:00 - 7:00 pm with family present from 5:00 - 7:00 pm. Rosary to follow at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m., Monday, March 17th at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Grand Prairie.
